“7/19/2006 Review”
By: Carrie R.
I ADORE my dentist...been going to him since 1997! I had just moved back from the east coast and before I left said coast, I had had a filling filled. Well...I had a REALLY bad toothache during my whole drive across the US and when I got to LA a friend recommended I see Dr. Harrison. I went to his office (nice view of the water and of Brentwood!) and they took X-rays and whatnot and found the filling wasn't 'cured' all the way. SO after hardening the filling...which fixed my toothache!...I asked how much the bill would be and his response was...NOTHING! I was floored...a Doc not wanting $$? Crazy! He figured he was doin' me a favor...and I was hooked. Any Doc who will do that on the first meeting is a keeper! He's also a black belt in karate so there's lots of fun stuff to check out around his office! lol The nurses are awesome and they email AND text you to remind you of appointments. So hi-tec!

My dentist of six years just moved, & I was not excited about finding another one. I read the review on this site & decided to try Dr. Harrison. The entire operation was amazing--overlooking the ocean, so hi-tech (he used tools I've never seen in all my dental adventures), & friendly. I was blown away by how professional, helpful, & competent every single person was...this is a rare find in any city.

2 years ago I had a horrendous dental experience wherein a Dr. Luke Kim (beware the Tooth King in Santa Monica) recommended a bunch of fillings I didn't need to milk the #$% out of my dental insurance and left my teeth in so much pain I seriously considered filing a malpractice suit against him. Needless to say I was incredibly leery about trusting another dentist again with my mouth (it hurt so much to chew that I lost weight from not eating). I read one of the reviews here and scheduled a consultation with Mr. Harrison and was immediately impressed by his friendly and attentive staff, who made me feel like an old patient right away. as for Mr Harrison himself, I love the personal attention he gives to his patients. When he takes the time to explain the reason for any treatment he is about to perform, (which he always does himself, outside of cleanings) it feels like I'm getting a free education about my teeth. I definitely care more about my teeth when I'm well informed about what's going on. His staff is great about reminding you of upcoming appointments and is very patient with me when I have questions about my insurance coverage. I am so happy to find this dentist, I dread the day I will have to go through another search if I happen to move out of LA.

I hate going to the dentist. I would literally rather go to the doctor for six shots than see a dentist. My past has been riddled by awful doctors and nail-marked chairs. So it was with great trepidation that I made an appointment here after having yet another dream that all my teeth were rotted and falling out. I have to say while the cleaning was not pleasant, it was nonetheless my best dental experience thus far. Everyone was very friendly, and Dr. Harrison provided a non-lecturing explanation of my problems. I would highly recommend Dr. Harrison and his staff. The only drawback: No validated parking. Two hours in the office cost me $15 for parking in the attached garage. There's metered parking out front but it's just for one hour. There may also be street parking if you're willing to walk a bit.

What can I say... I had not been to the dentist for about 10 years! After running into Yelp on one of my routine Google romps looking for the best Dentist around my area without any success I ran into this little GEM called Yelp! Thank you God for introducing me to this site. I read the great reviews left by other fellow Yelper's and finally decided to give it a go. The staff here is incredible friendly and they call you to remind you of your appointment a day before. Dr. Song and Dr. Harrison are amazing. I just came back from having 3 cavities fixed by Dr.Song. NO PAIN! This was the first time I have ever been to the dentist and not felt one thing. Dr.Song makes sure that your comfortable and at ease before he proceeds. The thing I loved the most was that he was always making sure that my Anesthesia would not wear off so he would occasionally inject a bit more juice to keep me numb. Rest assured that your in the hands of caring, professional, extremely knowledgeable staff and Doctors. I can't wait to go back and get my next cleaning. *Can't believe I just said that*

Doctor Harrison is a dental genius. Michaelangelo with a drill. Seriously though. I will never go to another dentist even if I move to another country, I will fly back for my appointment. I had a lot of work done and never felt any pain. He's also a really nice guy. Next time I have a party, he's invited. I recommend everyone to him. He tells you exactly what he's doing and why. And you have a view of Santa Monica from your chair. Going to get work done at the dentist will never be fun, but this is as good as it gets. I'm smiling right now, showing my perfect teeth, thanks to him.

I'm a former patient of Bill Harrison's, and even though I haven't seen him in about 15 years (I left to follow one of his former associates who opened an office closer to where I live), I still remember how highly competent and skilled he was, and would recommend him to anyone on the Westside. He was the first dentist that I saw in about seven years; I had bad experiences growing up, going to a dentist who was also a family friend, and who also didn't use local anesthetics like novacain. Until I went to Dr. Harrison, I never knew dental work could be pain free. It turned out that the fillings from my old dentist were so badly done that they would have to be replaced, and what a visible difference. My old fillings looked like someone had just stuck lumps of metal into the crevices of my teeth, while my new fillings followed the tooth contours so exactly that you wouldn't have noticed that they were there except for the difference in color.

Dr. Harrison makes you forget "Marathon Man" ever happened. I discovered him thanks to my friend Bree who works in his office and has known him for years. We all know how horrifying it is to go to the dentist, but Dr. Harrison and his staff always put you at ease. They always explain what they're doing to you as they're doing it, even on something as simple as a routine cleaning. And his voice puts uber-producer Robert Evans' to shame. The office itself is a strange mix of surfer culture and 70s music. How can you not enjoy a filling while you're listening to The Carpenters? It's un-American. Plus you've got a great view from the ninth floor window. As for parking... apparently it's expensive, but I always find free street parking a couple blocks away on Bundy and San Vicente. Watch out for Brentwood beyotches texting on their Blackberries while they drive though!

I avoided the dentist for two years after leaving my first Los Angeles dentist -- I suspected the guy was fleecing me for aggressively mediocre work, and after I had some cavities filled I never saw him except when he came in to try to sell me a mouthful of veneers for a wad full of cash. Going to the dentist felt like going to a time-share sales meeting, only with drills. So I'm just about as fearful a patient as you can get, plus I have no insurance. I was starting to have pain when eating so I knew I had to do something. Found Dr. Harrison on Yelp -- thank goodness! I'm very very happy. First of all the office if very cool. Doesn't feel like going to the dentist -- always a plus for me. Surfer, tiki chic with an incredible view. Dr. Harrison gave me an exam on my first visit. He seemed to feel bad on giving me the news that I needed a ton of work -- which I expected based on the amount of pain I was in. I've now had it all done and it was not scary or painful at all. He's very gentle and skilled, explains what he's doing, takes care of you. Not only that but he gave me a HUGE discount on all the work, which was very kind indeed. Everyone I've met in the office is gentle and kind, concerned about your experience. It's a great atmosphere. If you're fearful like me, Dr. Harrison will put you at ease!

Hello! After asking around for a good dentist in LA, all I heard were horror stories- really freaky stuff. I am not scared of dentists and luckily have not had a bad experience with one, but what I was hearing was just really insane. Anyway, I checked out Dr. Harrison today after reading so much about him on Yelp and I have to say I was very happy with his service. His staff was gracious and answered any and all questions. Check in was not only easy, it was super timely and I didn't even have a chance to sit before they took me back for my cleaning. There is definitely a surfer-vibe to the decor, but it wasn't so over the top that I felt like I was in a movie set, nor did I feel like it was trying too hard. I was relaxed, listening to Sirius radio, checking out the palm trees out the window, and hearing my evaluation. The only thing I would say, just as a little bit of a warning, is that I wouldn't ask for something, say "whitening", unless you really want to invest in it immediately. I asked about it, but needed to wait for now. I started to feel a bit as if I was getting the hard-sale on it from certain staff, but eventually, when I kept saying "not right now" politely, it was understood- not right now, thanks! Lastly, there was a great thing that Dr. Harrison said that stuck with me. He said their mission is not to be a repair shop, but to get my teeth healthy and then keep them that way. I really liked hearing him say this- and don't want to think he's just a dentist on a mission for megabucks. He also told me I need to stay away from sugar. Drats! Oh well, can't win them all. It's a great place, especially for someone new to LA, like me. I'm going back next week to have a cavity filled, and actually, weirdly, looking forward to it. GOOD, CONFIDENT, PROFESSIONAL JOB!

Whoa!! I see I am not the first to review Dr. William D. Harrison DDS and Associates. So. I am a big procrastinator...also induced by my ridiculous office job work schedule that never allows for me to do routine things like ohhhh say doctors and dentist appointments. That said I had not found the time to go to the dentist in about four years. Gross you say? Well I do have nice teeth and gums and it's not just my Mom who is telling me that because they spent all kinds of money on me as a kid to be called Braceface alright. So I found myself in his office earlier this week due to feeling really bad that I hadn't seen a dentist in so long and also because I recently got laid off because of the whole "oh no we have a recession and need to lay off half the company to save money". Basically I needed to act quick since my insurance that I barely use has an expiration date and I suddenly found myself with a lot of free time. My good friend that I've known for the past decade and then some gave me the info for the office (she is a fantastic hygienist there). So I call on Monday and ask for a cleaning and they fit me in on Tuesday afternoon. I like that. I go in and was happy to see a more uplifting relaxed looking waiting room filled with rattan furniture and beachy cushions and surf pics on the walls. Alright I really like where this is going. So I go back through to the office and into my little cleaning station. As I am looking around I feel a bit nostalgic for the dentist that I went to as a kid that was in a late 70's looking office building with wood everywhere. For some this might conjure up fear, for me it brings back happy thoughts of a dentist office that looked like an 80's rendition of Star Wars and Mission to Mars... Okay back to present day. So wood paneling...and plants....and a radio station playing the beach boys...the doors....the monkeys....okay you get the idea. So I get my cleaning which was rather painless and without any cavities. Not bad for not going for 4 years! I also had a full set of 20 or something xrays taken. Slightly awkward having those little plates put in your mouth and definitely not sexy but overall not a terrible experience. I also got my retainer cleaned which I was embarrassed and ecstatic about all at once. I showed it to Dr. Harrison and he was like um yeah we can make you a new one...that one looks....so I say "um disgusting?" and he was like you said it not me. So my poor friend took it and put it in a cleaning machine for me and I apologized that anyone other than me should ever have to touch that thing. She said it was alright because she was wearing gloves. So anyways the results were that I am going back very soon to get a tiny filling replaced and a new retainer. Oh also parking in the structure is validated for first timers like me. On my next visit I might need to hunt down some street parking. I am only taking off one star because as good as everything was I didn't have to pay anything while I was there. That worries me because even though I have my dental insurance for the time being I haven't a freakin clue as to what my bill will be. Keep your fingers crossed for me okay?

I take one star for the prices of the fillings and other things and the fact they sold me toothpaste is cost $15 plus that has sugar in it when i just had a checkup for a couple of fillings and a problem with gum inflammation. its a bit late and sugar in toothpaste irritated gum. but the four is for the service. Some of THE best service i have had. That dentist knows his ish and makes sure you do too. that is what makes a dentist. He is awesome.GO DR.HARRISON! word to the wise brush your teeth. get those check ups. get some insurance. you will need it.

Dr. Harrison rocks the house...He was able to squeeze me in for an emergency chipped front tooth- he fixed it beautifully... Then I needed 5 cavities filled..It was as good as getting 5 cavities filled could possibly be. I'm not sure why people say he's expensive, I asked around how much for a cavity/cleaning/etc. and discovered he's very reasonably priced. Thank goodness for Dr. Harrison!
