I am writing this rating about 25 years after being treated by Dr.Murphy, a lieutenant in the USN then. Dr. Murphy made it his personal mission to save my leg from amputation and I want to take this chance to thank him from the bottom of my heart. I was involved in a motorcycle collision while stationed at PSD RTC San Diego in 1982. The Balboa Hospital was quite old and antiquated at that time. Dr. Murphy and the rest of the GREAT surgeons at Balboa Hospital took the time and care to treat large groups of sailors with various orthopedic injuries on a one on one basis. I still don't know how they did it but they did it anyway. These guys never slept! I have been wanting to thank Dr.Murphy and his group, not to forget Capt. Applegate, for their tireless work to help us injured sailors. And I'll tell you I was a handful! I always remember Dr.Murphy telling me he wished they had a Hyperbaric Chamber at Balboa at that time. Just last year I went through another surgery for osteomylitis of the same legs that was broken in 1982. I went through 6 months of hyperbaric Therapy in my home town of Bayonne N.J.. I still have my leg and I can still dance on it! I finally found Dr. Murphy on a Google search and as soon as I saw his picture I begaqn to tear up. Thank You Paul, You saved my leg!
