- Dr. Bloom graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1957 and from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1961. He completed an internship at Winnipeg General Hospital followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. After a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Los Angeles VA Medical Center, University of California Los Angeles, he became a VA Research Associate.
